Rev. Fr. George Kurian (Late)
(Dec 1959 to Dec 1961)

The establishment of the Orthodox Parish in Bahrain with the arrivalof the first vicar Rev. Fr George Kurien should be considered as the first major step in the history of the Orthodox Churches, as well as of the other churches in the Gulf. The lead given by the Orthodox Church members in Bahrain was an inspiration to start parishes in other Gulf states such as Kuwait, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Muscat, Now the Malankara Orthodox Church could be proud of the fact that besides Bahrain there are well established parishes with churches of our own in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. To a certain extent credit goes to Fr. George Kurien in accomplishing this, as he used Bahrain as his base and sowed the seeds of organizing parishes in these states. During Achens Vicarship St. Thomas Association for men and St.Marys Association for women were formed. After his term of service in Bahrain, Achen was transferred to Kuwait and thus became the founder priest of Kuwait Parish.
